The law as an economic development tool – really? Then I though yes, really! The law or better put the rule of law is a critical, if not the critical, piece of soft infrastructure that makes everything else work. No development – economic, social or environmental – can be sustained without the rule of law.

To understood the Hanjin bankruptcy is to understand the current state of the global shipping industry. And if Hanjin is any thing to go by, and it is, the picture isn’t good. However, it is not all doom and gloom as the shipping industry is in the process of reorganizing itself and of this Hanjin saga is simply a part.
Will giving Hanjin more time to develop and submit a rehabilitation plan to the court give it the ‘breathing space’ needed to come up with a viable plan to say afloat? Or is it just delaying the inevitable? I guess we will have to wait unit December to find out.

This collaboration has at the heart of it the application of the highest global standards, standards which are being used as a means to maintaining competitiveness. Given the greater scrutiny that jurisdictions that operate international financial services centres have come under in recent times expect to see more of these types of collaborations.
The expanded Panama Canal is an important catalyst for these port investments, it is only one factor that is driving the port investments on the US east and Gulf coasts. As logistics, and particularly the transport component, continue to evolve only time will tell if these investments are justified.
