Rugby World Cup: England 2015?
By: Ainsley Brown
Could there be a homecoming for Webb Ellis?
Now this is a story I could not resist, I just had to do it. Yes, finally a true rugby story on the site.
According to the Times, England or I should say the Rugby Football Union (RFU) as confirmed that it will be summiting a bid to host the Rugby World Cup in 2015. The RFU will make a presentation to the International Rugby Board Council (IRB) in Dublin next week Wednesday after which details of the bid will be made public.
Among the RFU delegation will be very familiar names in the rugby world, World Cup winning and former England Internationals, Lawrence Dallaglio and Will Greenwood and oh yeah Andy Burnham.
Who?
Yeah, Andy Burnham. Oh he is just the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport for the UK government.
The addition of Mr. Burnham to the delegation is a sure sign that the UK government is very serious about partnering with the RFU to secure the games. Since the IRB will require a £80 million investment in order to secure the games, the deal worked out between the IRB and government takes on a whole new significance.
But what´s the legal connection?
Well, follow the money. Wherever there is money, especially of the significant sums mentioned above, there are bound to be lawyers not very far behind.
Im assuming the games will be played in Twickenham?
