I chose the list based on several factors, including but not limited to, the convergence of various government policies, investments, enhanced and emerging business opportunities and infrastructural decisions made by the government, private sector and civil society in 2019 and preceding years. Certain patterns have emerged that should make 2020 – best guess – a very special one for business in Jamaica.
Let’s face it SEZ have a proven track record for economic growth and development through industrial upgrading, economic diversification and greater global value chain participation.
The one question an investor needs to ask themselves before investing in a special economic zone (SEZ) in Jamaica or elsewhere is this: Am I eligible?
The seamless integration of the local economy with SEZs is critical for achieving developmental objects of SEZs.
In a globalized world for Jamaica it is now facilitate or die. Trade facilitation is a must. And the SEZs have their role to play. For Jamaica’s Special Economic Zone Authority trade facilitation is investment facilitation.
It goes without saying but I will say it anyway, trade facilitation is important to the effective functioning of special economic zones (SEZ) in Jamaica or anywhere else in the world for that matter.
