Happy Birthday Bob…Jah Bless

I want to extend a very warm heart felt Happy Birthday to Robert Nesta Marley, better know to the world as Bob Marley.
Rest in peace Bob, you are gone but never forgotten. Thank you for the music, memories and most of all the vision for a better world.
So what does this have to do with law, well nothing, I just wanted to acknowledge one of my heroes.
However, there is a slightly related law story as the Bob Marley heirs have been recently embroiled in a lawsuit in Nevada in attempt to protect The Legend’s image. The suit file back in 2008 is against AVELA which the Marley’s allege breached their intellectual property (IP) rights in their late father. The case, for the Marley’s, is more than about money – it is fundamentally about who will control the image of their father.
A Nevada jury in late January, I am happy to say, handed the family a resounding victory and awarded the family damages for the breach of their IP. All I can say is Redemption:
